Nutrition- Soup & Bread!

I could live on soup. Seriously- it is an infusion of goodness full of electrolytes and soluble nutrition. It is hard to f*%$ up soup :) It's a go-to healthy choice. A small serving is very filling. It can be topped with bread, shredded cheese, sour cream or yogurt. It is a 2:00 reheat and great for a fast meal at home. It is a great "healthier" restaurant choice. I order soup all the time! It is delicious :)

Ben made this amazing asparagus and broccoli soup. He brought me 2 containers which = 4 servings for me. I have 2 left for the weekend. It is a jam packing 300 calorie infusion- perfect fuel for training and a healthy food plan. Here is his recipe:
Four cups of each potato, asparagus carrot and broccoli
1 bag of milk
2 cups chicken stock.
I think he blended it.
Serve with greek yogurt.
After adding the cheese I thought it was a bit salty so perhaps 1 cup of stock could be replaced by 1 cup of water? Regardless, this is a simple and delicious healthy recipe to try!

Lastly for tonight I'd like to love on my bread maker machines a little. What is not love?
  1. Bread Makers are automatic and easy! It takes me less than 5 minutes to load 2 machines and 4 hours later I have fresh bread!
  2. Bread is a staple in every family's food plan. My kids go through a loaf every 2 days. "Healthy" bread is $3/loaf in the supermarket and is still full of preservatives and chemicals; made in a factory. My homemade loaves cost about $0.70 and are 100% natural with 6 basic ingredients.
  3. Bread is great to share! Who doesn't love fresh bread? At $0.70/loaf you can give generously! :)
  4. If you want to be more creative than me add cinnamon and raisins- experiment with the bread maker's settings for specialty breads- you can google the manuals and recipes online.
  5. Bread makers make easy pizza dough- 101
  6. Machines are a dime a dozen. Check your local thrift/second hand shop.
If you have a bread maker in your crawl space or basement please break it out and follow my lead. You won't be disappointed. Take inspiration, save money and eat healthier!

I don’t have a Diastasis- Why is my abdomen still distended postpartum?

I get asked this question all the time! Here is my answer: Research has shown that 100% of pregnant women will develop some degree of diastasis recti. A diastasis is a lateral separation in the abdominal wall between the recti or “six pack”, due to a stretching of the midline connective tissue or “linea alba”. Although some diastasis will heal postpartum, in many cases a separation will remain without restorative exercise. Distention from DR will present as a doming in the midline. Women who heal a diastasis spontaneously or through restorative exercise may still find that their abdomens are distended, particularly after a meal and/or at the end of the day. If there is no diastasis, why is this? This abdominal distention does not occur in the midline, but rather across the entire abdominal wall. This is due to a weakened hypotonic TVA- transverse abdominis muscle. The TVA is the deepest anterior abdominal muscle, wrapping around the midsection like a girdle, with a left an

New Website & BodyRock TV Articles

I have a modified raw food 7 day cleanse planned, as well as new fitness goals for myself. 2010 was the Year of t

Teaching!

I love teaching. It is one of my passions and I am working towards incorporating more of it into my professional repertoire. As a personal trainer I teach 1-on-1 all day every day. When I present to groups, I reach more people at the same time. Since 2006 I have been giving talks at the Running Room to clinics of all distances. I love educating runners about core, effective cross training, incontinence, and the importance of training smart. Knowing they all want to be uninjured and still running in 10 years, they are a captive audience and I am always very well received. My runners give me great feedback, they love my talks, and the instructors keep inviting me back. I think my genuine enthusiasm comes through, and is a tremendous strength of mine when teaching. In 2014 I designed a Trainer Trainer Workshop to educate other fitness professionals on Diastasis Recti, pelvic floor wellness, and safely training the pre and postnatal demographic. It's a 4 hour presentation that I
